It’s football season on the plains of Auburn and that means that the Auburn / Opelika area is in full festive mode! There are a variety of events for those folks who may be unfamiliar with all that our area has to offer.
One thing that I love to do is share with you some fun ways to spend your time down in the gorgeous Auburn area when you aren’t actually attending the big game.(LSU Tiger fans-we are glad to have you visiting.)
Events and Places worth exploring:
Friday 9/21/12 at the Opelika Event Center –AU vs. LSU Tailgate Concert Featuring Taylor Hicks
8:30 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. – Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art (901 S. College Street) For a little low key fun, the Jule Collins Smith Museum is a wonderful place to view some fabulous art, dine at the café or pick up some unique items from their gift shop. It’s one of Alabama’s finest museums and open 7 days a week with free admission.
Campus Walking Tours (Auburn Alumni Center, 317 South College Street, parking behind Alumni Center) It’s a great way to learn about the great things going on at Auburn University. Stroll the campus with a student guide and take in the atmosphere that makes Auburn so special! Two separate tours are offered on Friday the 21st. One tour begins at 3pm and the other at 4pm. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.
For some culinary delights you can visit these establishments:
Amsterdam Café– Enjoy a casual atmosphere with upscale cuisine. All within walking distance of the AU campus. The crab cake with avocado sandwich is a local favorite and deservedly so!
The Overall Company located in nearby Opelika offers a unique coffee shop with a lot of local flavor. Try their grilled pimento cheese and bacon sandwich. It’s delicious! This unique little shop also features gourmet Artisan Pops. They also have wine and craft beer for purchase!
Bloodhound–Located right on the main strip in Downtown Auburn this popular pub is a new addition to the area. Here you can enjoy a fine glass of bourbon or a craft beer on tap. The bison burger is the real deal!
Enjoy your trip to the plains and if you would like to view a game day house or condo on your visit, I’ll be happy to assist you!
